Shoreline Protection Project

Promethean General Contractors was awarded this project based on expertise in heavy civil construction and civil/structural engineering.

General scope of work:

• Clearing and site preparation, including erosion, sediment and pollution control and pavement placement of approximately 19,000 tons of Class II rip rap along 660 feet of riverbank of the Black Warrior River adjacent to Moundville Archaeological Park

• Ecosystem protection – sensitivity of the archaeological area required rock/stone fill that was transported in by barge and placed from the river

• Only access from the land side was for skid steer-sized equipment and smaller.

• Clearing and grubbing operations performed from the river side with a barge-mounted excavator

• Grading/excavation

• Preservation of historical, archaeological and cultural resources of utmost importance
